Honestly people used to work in coal mines in company towns with no bonuses. the bonus, from that perspective, is an advancement. Someone is going to volunteer, same as for military. People DO want to help to keep people from starving.

That people are that desperate because 80% of us are check to check is very bad. That people can't afford time off or that true volunteers are volunteering for this is also very bad. It's pretty gross. Karma will be brutal.
