It's too bad Americans forgot how to sow. My wife made masks last night that meet the CDC requirements for a basic face mask and is sterilizing them and donating them to healthcare personnel. One woman on pennies vs the leader of the Free world sitting on infinite resources.

Surgical-style masks can be made more quickly. Nobody much bothers to make a distinction between that kind (which offers little protection but is better than nothing) and an N-95 respirator (which looks like a mask). That’s unfortunate.

The long lead time on certain respirator components is an issue.

I can't find a link right now, but I believe it's because the machines used to make the proper kind of mask take 18 months to build.
