At 22 I had my first child. I was a sergeant (E-5) in the Marine Corps and had already did 2 deployments to Iraq. I qualified for WIC, so that means the 4 ranks below me also qualified, which make up more than 1/2 the military. We love vets and the military but pay them crap.

Wasn't any better in the 80's or 90's. My husband was an E-6 with three girls under 13. We qualified for WIC. He retired an E-7, and his retirement pension has always just covered the mortgage. He worked till 2017 when he finally retired. Even today my pension is more than his.
