I know this is to bring home the evil of guns but guns aren't the biggest issue, ignorance is the major problem. It's people that don't know how to store their guns and people who think guns are toys... I can go on for days.
Firearms are nothing but tools. The owner of the firearm is at fault for not properly securing their weapon. It was loaded, not locked up and easily accessible to individuals not trained in how to use them. So yes ignorance.

I raised three kids in a household with several guns. We took the kids out to the desert and shot a rabbit, took them to that rabbit and showed them, this is what that gun does, it is NOT a toy. They learned.

Most do not do that, this case being an example. Several things are dangerous if not properly handled. Proper training and safety make worlds of difference, and apparently rabbits
