There are a group of us working to help change the mental health questions on licensing applications, and make it less punitive for providers. It's critically important we protect public safety, but healthcare providers are the same as anyone else with mental health issues.

In that I mean that the vast majority of the time their untreated mental illness makes them far more a danger to themselves than to anyone else. It drives secrecy, isolation, divorce, substance abuse, alcoholism, and suicide - to the tune of 400 doctors per year.

I've always heard Drs have a high suicide rate but I did not know seeking help was punitive. That just seems counterproductive and wrong.
