So was it just my experience or does the VA choice program, well to put it bluntly, suck? Would it be better to have the VA create a network of Drs that will see vets. Kind of like an insurance company does. Cut out the middle man and save money in doing so. #Vets

I've never used the Choice program, because I've heard stories of people getting stuck with high bills because the VA won't pay, or took their time in paying. So I just wait however long I need to, to be seen.

I used it then they canceled my referral because I was seeing an outside Dr (choice Dr) so I had to go see my primary to get another referral, make an appointment, wait for the choice to call again and then make another appointment. That took 3 months. I've head the same too.

Yeah that's just too much hassle! I used to pay out of my own pocket, to go to a pain management clinic, until it closed. Getting into the PMC at the VA is too stressful. Once I'm in, I'm seen 6/mo for nerve burning & spinal injections, which hardly works.

Idk if it is just at my VA but they offer acupuncture for pain management. I've heard it works wonders but I have yet to try it. But before they arrived the wait was already 3 months long so ya. The VA is just a mess from what I have seen.

I have never been offered acupuncture. I'm sure my VA doesn’t have anything that progressive. I do know they have a limit on how many schedule 2 narcotics can be prescribed(2), but no limit on how many actual prescriptions a vet can be prescribed with. Currently I'm at 15.

Wow. At my high point I think I was only ever at a pain patch and about 5 meds. Now I'm at 0 and just live with the pain because nothing ever worked for me.

I used to take morphine pills for pain, but now I take Lyrica. My other narcotic is xanax for anxiety. The rest are for depression, anxiety, blood pressure, stomach issues, etc.

I was on a Buprenorphine patch for my pain. It almost killed me once because it is time released with body heat and while sleeping the ac went out. It was not a fun experience. Me and meds do not mix well.

Wow! The air force started me on a steady diet of 800 MG ibuprofen. That is the story of my stomach problems. LOL

It sucks that the meds they give you make you need more meds to treat the damage the 1st meds gave you.
