I've never used the Choice program, because I've heard stories of people getting stuck with high bills because the VA won't pay, or took their time in paying. So I just wait however long I need to, to be seen.

I used it then they canceled my referral because I was seeing an outside Dr (choice Dr) so I had to go see my primary to get another referral, make an appointment, wait for the choice to call again and then make another appointment. That took 3 months. I've head the same too.

Or maybe Medicare? The VA is close to UK's NHS. Government owned & operated facilities. Would better serve patients as an insurer and center of knowledge for Veterans'/service related issues.
-
Yes moving them to Medicare could work too. I don't know what the price difference would be though.

I signed up for a dental program through the Choice program, I have to do a little more research, but I’m paying 50 bucks a month and still having to pay up to 300 dollars of the dental bill. I’m 98% sure there are better options in the public sector.

You could probably get dental insurance for less that would cover more. There are many plans and it varies, just shop around to get a good one.

But it's not just ”Choice” program, VA care has gone down hill recently, from when they offer to cover pregnancy/prenatal care, to simple routine healthcare and psychiatric care:https://twitter.com/cynical_reality/status/1218197254521094146?s=21 …

Yes it has the VA from my experience is in dire need of repair. They keep throwing money at it but they need accountability and accessibility.
