Kicking an underage child (meaning under 18 in most states) out of the house, without the child being emancipated, can often be considered child abandonment, which is a crime.https://blogs.findlaw.com/law_and_life/2013/05/can-parents-kick-teens-out-of-their-home.html …

It is but it still happens unfortunately.

You should partner with The Homeless Alliance and
@thesourcelgbt to help find/create safe housing for those kiddos. Just a thought. That seems more attainable than what you're proposing. -
I want to end homelessness in general but parents should be financially responsible for children until 18 even if they are at a shelter or group home.

It sounds good till you consider it means enforcing contact of some sort between the parents and the kids, who may be better off away from them, if they can find shelter. Or they might not kick the kids out but make their lives ongoing hell in the privacy of their own homes.
-
That's a good point on them keeping them essentially locked up. This is why I asked to get input and have people see different angles.

In a word, yes. It would help. But a law to address this will need to address parental responsibility as a whole rather than any specific issue.
-
Well it would be an overarching law that would help more than just this specific group but everyone who is kicked out by their parents.
