I know what a primary is supposed to be. There should be a debate over ideas, a compare-and-contrast of records and worldview, an interrogation of value systems, but it's not supposed to be toxic. Most politicians spend more time attacking opponents than talking about their own accomplishments. It turns into not who is the best but who is the least worst. We deserve better.
