How does it make any sense that I can buy a handgun at 18 but I can’t buy a beer? If I’m adult enough to make a conscious choice and vote for our leaders, I should be able to make a conscious choice about what I consume.

I joined the Marine Corps at 17 I couldn't legally have sex, buy cigarettes, alcohol, fire arms, vote, drive, or do just about anything but I was old enough to sign my life away. I was on my way to my 2nd deployment when I bought my first beer in Germany. Not much makes sense.

Can't you purchase alcohol and drink on base at 18 if you are military personnel?

not while i was in. It was left to the base commander at over sea commands where the drinking age was 18. but in the US it was 21 or face discipline. I had a lot of friends lose rank and money for underage drinking.

oh makes sense. "The National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984. The act was a controversial bill that punished every state that allowed persons below 21 years to purchase and publicly possess alcoholic beverages by reducing its annual federal highway apportionment by 10 percent."
