How does it make any sense that I can buy a handgun at 18 but I can’t buy a beer? If I’m adult enough to make a conscious choice and vote for our leaders, I should be able to make a conscious choice about what I consume.

I joined the Marine Corps at 17 I couldn't legally have sex, buy cigarettes, alcohol, fire arms, vote, drive, or do just about anything but I was old enough to sign my life away. I was on my way to my 2nd deployment when I bought my first beer in Germany. Not much makes sense.

Federal funding. The drinking age used to vary by state but was about 18 but I believe in the 80s the Fed said if you want federal funding for roads the drinking age needs to be 21 and well here we are. And well firearms have huge lobbying groups. So basically money.
