How does it make any sense that I can buy a handgun at 18 but I can’t buy a beer? If I’m adult enough to make a conscious choice and vote for our leaders, I should be able to make a conscious choice about what I consume.

Well if it is any consolation at least your first purchased beer was a good one. Germany has great beer.

I don't remember the exact flavor just that it was a strong flavor.

I was about to post this but it was my son, the Marine, not me. He couldn’t even rent a car, but he could go risk his life in Afghanistan. And just the year prior to that I had to write a note for him if he was late to school....

Our society doesn't make much sense most of the time.

Federal funding. The drinking age used to vary by state but was about 18 but I believe in the 80s the Fed said if you want federal funding for roads the drinking age needs to be 21 and well here we are. And well firearms have huge lobbying groups. So basically money.

Can't you purchase alcohol and drink on base at 18 if you are military personnel?
-
not while i was in. It was left to the base commander at over sea commands where the drinking age was 18. but in the US it was 21 or face discipline. I had a lot of friends lose rank and money for underage drinking.
