    I don't think it's silly to be given perspective. Do people really know how many die in car incidents and from air pollution for that matter? We should address these deaths with urgency as well but we don't.

    I've seen many making similar assertions, but you don't grasp how silly it sounds outside of a small bubble of people that obsess about this. The reason even thoughtful people freak out about pandemic is because of the ceiling in deaths, not the floor.

    Our housing market is not a 'free' market economy. Not even close. It is entirely constructed through financial + land use policy, and subsidized through public money that pays for infrastructure like water and roads - neither of which are 'user pay.' So, yes, we do have a say.

    In a free market economy, individuals have the right to buy property as an investment and dispose of it as they wish including leaving it empty. If the choice is otherwise, communism, at least be honest about it. Might be popular.
