UPDATE: As we restore, we're moving from the New Orleans East area, toward Ninemile/West Bank, from west to southeast then back around – almost in a loop. As generation becomes available and transmission lines are brought back into service, we’ll begin restoring in this path.

Early this morning, crews turned power on for some customers in Eastern New Orleans with generation supplied by the New Orleans Power Station. This is the first step in bringing power back to the metro region after Hurricane Ida's devastation.

Entergy has taken the first step to restoring power back to the region. The first light shined early this morning in New Orleans East. Crews will have to methodically bring back additional transmission lines over time to provide additional pathways for progress.

Entergy’s first restoration priorities are public safety issues and critical facilities, such as 911 centers, hospitals and pumping stations. We restored power to parts of the city today, and we are working to get all customers back online as quickly and safely as possible.

Now that Hurricane Ida has moved out of the area, we're conducting inspections of the system to get a clearer picture of what will be needed to repair the destruction. Full damage assessment could take several days, as many areas are currently inaccessible.

A cat got into a substation that feeds parts of Uptown, Central City, Mid-City, and the CBD, and caused a flash when it came into contact with our equipment. Crews are safely working to make equipment repairs and restore power to all as quickly as possible.

Nearly 26,000 workers from 40 states are assessing damage and restoring service to our customers. We know customers need estimated restoration times, and we're working to provide initial estimated restoration times for all customers by Friday morning.

Chris, the storm was that intense. Ida tied for fifth with several other storms for highest wind speed when making landfall in the United States. Ida is tied with Laura, 2004's Charley and storms in 1932, 1919, 1886 and 1856 for hitting the United States with 150 mph winds.
