When your goal is impossible you can create arbitrarily large structures dedicated to achieving it. Eq of outcome is an obvious example, but so is eq of opportunity. Opportunity is not and cannot be evenly distributed, so the crusade to make it so can demand infinite resources

I know this is hardly an answer to your question, and I'm not saying I wouldn't prefer more liberty to less all else being equal. But like anything it's a trade off, I won't treat the liberation of more people as a good beyond all other goods
