So many ppo spend massive chunks of their lives gaming & I wonder how they live with themselves. I suppose there isn't much time to think about it, but I also imagine that they have some dark moments of clarity, like a heroin junkie hitting a drought.

Of course if you thought content was irrelevant you'd think of vidya and books in this way. Thank god this is not how reality works
-
You keep assuaging yourself that the Medium is not the Message; why?
-
Because the core of truth (that the medium has important consequences) is being distorted by a ridiculously strong claim that has no actual support (that content is irrelevant). Read Understanding Media closely enough and you'll see McLuhan failing to believe his own thesis
-
Wrong. Provide evidence. You can't, as you are implying that you have access to McLuhan's internal stance, as if you can tell that he doubts what he wrote quite clearly.
-
I have been writing out my beef with McLuhan (and Marx, for that matter, though McLuhan is subtler thinker than Marx). Expect me. The message matters
-
Less than you think it does
-
High confidence: more than zero Medium confidence: significant enough that it can't be ignored in at least a plurality of cases We'll see though, perhaps as I write and rewrite I'll wind up arguing myself out of it.
