Rants are fun, but after the hangover you have write a few caveats. So here are a few for my broadside last night against populist indifference to pro-natalism.

First in slamming
@Breitbart I was reacting to their homepage priorities and being unfair to@carney who has been a frequent defender of Rubio-Lee.2 replies 0 retweets 16 likesShow this thread -
Second it's possible to believe that growth drives birthrates and corporate tax cuts drive growth and so they're more pro-natalist than over tfamily-friendly policy. I don't think a lot of the populists I was criticizing think about it this way, but some do.

Third it's possible to believe that birthrates are completely beyond policy influence that thinking about these issues is a waste of time, and a vote for Trump was just a vote for a political firewall behind which to create cultural renewal, full stop.

Fourth it's possible to be a decline-of-the-west type and not care about birthrates at all, on the grounds that turning into Japan would be fine, so long as we build our walls high enough and rely on robots and don't even try to integrate anyone.

Oh, and: It's true that the child tax credit brigade has historically tried to sell its ideas within a conventional GOP framework, not as a MAGA Subsidy for Moar Babies. Maybe the world of MAGA would care more about the idea if it had been sold more their way.

So those are the caveats. Less fun than the rant. Enjoy your morning, and support the CTC.

The rant comes off much more favorably in light of the caveats
