So I wake up at 3am, out of it from a head cold and see this, and I am...(not screaming because we HoChunks don’t do that at night).

Chambers is my favorite Netflix original series. Ever. They turn the 'Native scholarship' stereotype on its head. They invoke issues like settler self-Indigenization, the negative side effects of abusing/appropriating Indigenous medicines, and white interference with ICWA.

I've always loved this Plateau beaded shell dress my mom and dad made together. Belongs to the family. I hope to make one just as beautiful one day 🖤🌿

I realize the more you live in your truth and speak your opinion, the more people dislike you. People really hate you because they don’t have the confidence to walk and live in their truths. Not my fault.

“This is not who we are, the way we are treating people.” - Joe Biden. Yes it is. Ask a Native. This is fundamentally who this country is, and what it was based upon, we just refuse to confront it. We have the power to change it, I’m just not sure we will. 🤷🏽‍♀️

The fact that so many white people who hold themselves out as being pro-America are willing to have reverence for a man who hated & fought against America, while declaring groups like Black Lives Matter as anti-American speaks volumes.

You should never use a Native woman as a prop to imply it either. Doesn't matter if the context is a joke. It still makes u a dick and complicit in violence against Indigenous women.

Presenting "Pocahontas" as a symbol of successful colonization is violence again VA Natives and the family of Matoaka. Even if you're Native. Don't matter if u agree with me or like it. Act right.

And if u do disagree with me then lets just pull out the family album and point at one of your family members as a symbol of being successfully colonized and see how it makes you feel.

Only for ppl to tell u that a matriarch u value from your family symbolizes successful colonization and telling u to be honored by that. Then imagine other Indigenous ppls partaking in that, then leveraging their trauma and resentment as a justification. doesn't make it right.

Take a moment to put yourself in their perspective. Imagine your Tribes oral traditions. Now imagine the US twisting it into some white washed savior narrative (to sell tobacco) and it takes off only to be one of the most popular stories in existence....
