Anyone else ever wish dressing nicely was a bit more common in tech? Don’t get me wrong, I love my jeans and tshirt days but also kinda wish I could wear nicer clothes sometimes too without getting strange looks

I might get funny looks if I were to wear a dress...

Not from me, I respect you.

That's messed up. You never ask a woman (or anyone who likes to dress up) "why are you dressed up", because sometime we (those who dress up), just want to look pretty!

Tell them it is a day that you don’t plan on running cables or working in the comm closet or other IT tedium than enables the jeans policy.

In some sense this has to do with a historic lack of IT staff and many moons ago you hired the nerdy people who didn't have a grand sense of fashion. If they ever showed up dressed up they were going to interview at lunchtime in a market where job hopping was common.

Tech sort of embraced the anti-fashion look and non-traditional became the norm. Simply dressing nice still carries with it a connotation of moving on it feels like.
