I gonna break with the trans orthodoxy here and say that the problem is not gender assignment at birth, which is overwhelmingly likely to be correct based on simple probabilities. The problem is coercive gender roles, expectations, and barriers to transition.

Especially with regards to a changing identity. It's okay to assign at birth, but it should not be set in stone and nothing should be done that prevents or discourages the child from exploring or deciding to change their own identity.

(but yeah wrt intersex people, it's not okay to forcibly "decide" for the baby what gender they should be, that's not what I mean here)

You’re getting at an important point here. What matters is whether people can safely explore and define their own identity, not being more careful about assigning a “correct” identity.

The way our society treats children and youth more broadly is deeply broken. Children aren’t subhumans who need to be controlled at all times.
