What happened was a tragedy. A series of tragedies and horrors. But out of these horrors came a group of people who rose to the occasion and I think it is one of the great privileges of my life to be present among them as this unfolds.

There are times in the world when really bad things happen, things that are impossible to fully behold. Things scary enough that most people retreat or avoid confronting it, and a small minority put everything on the line to oppose it.

When that happens, whatever it is, neo-Nazis, school shooters, pipelines, sexism in technology, whatever, it is worth watching the character of the people who rise up to do the most to stand up to those injustices.

A small handful of people can change the world. And I've had the incredible honor to be present to watch this happen not just in one situation, but several. It's humbling. And one day I'll figure out the right words to put it in context.
