        Gonna blow your mind, but you can reverse most ceiling fans with the switch on the side of the housing.

        I'm referring to precisely that. The setting for cooling seems to work best for warming and vice-versa.

        Yeah. IMO in the summer you want to pull cool air up from the floor, not blow hot air down from the ceiling

        My wild guess has always been that blowing air downwards has a more discernible effect from floor level, so they say that's the cooling setting so that people using the fan for its most likely usage case can walk under it and feel like it's doing something.

        After the air's turned over a few times the temperature gradient should be pretty well eliminated, so the air movement by you becomes the dominant concern (wind speed a big factor in "feels like" temps).
