I have been a victim and a witness to a white supremacist vehicle attack. I know firsthand what it is like for a community to be torn asunder by violence and hate. To learn of loved ones injured. To hear the news someone died.

I have not healed emotionally from that day. But I have taken solace in small joys, in community, and in sharing the burdens of trauma through shift work.

I hope that the good people in Toronto can heal in time, too, and that those who lost friends and family, those who are in hospital waiting rooms right now, can find peace. For everyone else needing an escape from the trauma through entertainment and joy, it is ok to seek that.

I am the world's biggest Boston fan. But for tonight I'll go ahead and say it, as hollow and meaningless as it may be, because a better world is possible when our disagreements *begin* with the acknowledgement and love of each other's humanity. Go Leafs Go.
