The B-1 is manned. It is low-observability but not stealth. It can be shot down. There are reports of aerial intercepts. While it isn't likely one was shot down tonight, the prospect of having an American plane shot down gives rise to escalation concerns.

Crewed weapons platforms over hostile airspace is, in itself, a substantial escalation anyways.

B-1B has traditionally been seen as a nuclear weapons platform. It doesn’t make much sense in a stand off attack.

Not presently. The B-1 has extensive conventional combat experience at this point.

Just as I mentioned in a previous tweet. Source:https://www.military.com/daily-news/2017/07/12/start-lanced-the-b-1s-nukes-but-bomber-will-still-get-new-bombs.html …

I stand corrected. Have really kept up with them since I was at IBM FSD in late 1980s.

You do realize that the armament these B-1's were using can be launched at their target from over 600 mile's away right? Please tell everyone that you understand they could be launched in safe airspace and still impact on target. Nice try though.

I love the B1 Bomber. It is so awesome when it flys over low. Like right out of a space movie. It was the most controversial weapon under development in the late 70’s.

B-1 Lancers after modified to spot targets better, are pretty much one of our best bomber craft. I love how it looks as well.
