On Gab, the alt-right, which posts frequent calls for "race war now," has found itself attempting to inherit an anti-war platform re: Syria and has self-decided that they now occupy the moral high ground.

The far right knows nothing about borders or how they were drawn or why. The fail to understand that borders are a completely synthetic concept. That reality is an insurmountable barrier in their belief system, which demands strong nationalism based on transcendant properties.

There is no coincidence that this version of the far-right is finding substantial support in the 35-and-under demographic. My generation knows a Europe with incredibly rigid borders compared to its history.

But here's reality: Germany's present borders, to take an example, are younger than Taylor Swift.

Far-right nationalism predicates itself on a logic based largely on the present status quo, which is not yet 30 years old, being something as if from divinity. When they confront this and find it breaks down on deeper inspection, what they come up with is disastrously convoluted

This exercise in interrogating the alt-right's logic, by the way, is incredibly useful for questioning your own intuitions about what borders and nations and laws actually mean and where they actually come from. The results may disquiet you.

They support Assad because after Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya, they were smart enough to figure out that it's unproductive to fund billions into destabilizing Middle Eastern countries that people run away from. You're just dense for not seeing the fundamental picture.

Syria actually has a heterogeneous population in terms of ethnicity and religion. And most of the minorities see Assad as their protector against sectarianism

I would maybe also mention Russia, but I know you're dubious of that narrative.
