You're from Upstate NY if you can say the sentence "take Route 7 to Route 787 to Route 87 which is both the Northway and the Thruway then head South on the Northway but get off before you get to the Thruway" and mean it.

Cohoes is pronounced "cuh-HOES" and Rensselaer is pronounced "RENN-slur" if you're talking about Rensselaer but pronounced "renn-suh-LEER" if you're talking about Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute which is not in Rensselaer.

If you go too far heading South on the Northway and you end up on the Thruway you might end up in Colonie which is pronounced "cuh-loh-NEEE" and there's nothing good there.
