It's interesting that the Abel-Ruffini Theorem implicitly comes up in data science all the time and we don't ever realize it. A consequence of the result is that the eigenvalues of a general matrix of degree 5 or greater cannot be computed non-iteratively.

Is the Abel-Ruffini reds as good as their whites?

oh you know I don't know, I tend to stick with reds (which is probably why I don't know the varietal)

How did I miss that? That's totally my jam. Oh, right. Twitter probably didn't show it to me because it didn't have enough activity. Those visibility feedback loops on social media can really make stuff sink or soar.

on the one hand sure but on the other it's not as if we tend to use the closed forms for 3x3 and 4x4 matrices, also iterative algos are one of the few blessings of numerical linear algebra

To be fair, it's a little above my Linear Algebra/Calc3 education. I looked it up, and it looks like it could be fascinating? Maybe? If I understood what it was for? >.>

IIRC, when you don’t know a lot (the 5 degrees or greater), you can’t do anything but brute force the solution step by step (iteratively). Useful in big data graphing, traveling salesman problem, etc, to prove there is no easy way

That sounds about right from what I'm gathering, it's just the proof of that I suppose. Never was good at proofs. I understand why they're necessary, but they tend to make my head hurt.
