This is not a good bill. This is not a good measure for gun control. It provides no basis for such a warrant and even goes so far as to presume guilt against an individual until compliance is given. This does not preserve due process in any way.https://twitter.com/pwcdanica/status/977672513936293888 …

The text of the bill gives the basis for the warrant under § 19.2-60.2. Please read the bill beginning at "Warrant and order for removal of firearms from persons posing a substantial risk of personal injury to self or others." It's quite thorough. https://lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604.exe?181+ful+HB198 …

What does this mean, though, specifically? What is such a risk? A nasty look? Yelling too loud? Being too Black?

Who gets to make the decision to file for such a warrant? The police who overcharge minorities? Commonwealth Attorneys?

In Virginia, circuit courts don't hear misdemeanor charges except under appeal. Why for this?

None of this adds up. This merely provides a mechanism for the state to come into marginalized communities and target leftists who are under attack. This further perpetrates state violence.
