It's not that. Liability theories have never been tested for automated systems that define their own functionality.

Kind of like while texting & driving is illegal, using apps etc weren’t actually written into the law? Kinda sorta

According to road law, if an object is moving in the roadway and it hits someone, it's the owner's fault. I can see how owners of autonomous vehicles would like for this not to be the case, but it is.

The woman wasn’t in the crosswalk. I know in LA, if you get hit (and don’t die) outside of a crosswalk, yypull get a citation, not the driver.
