Mostly, I want to know the history of that statute. I've got the thread of it being specific to non-whites in the Code of 1860/1877, and I can see it in the Code of 1950 as 18.2-422. I really want to see what happened in between

You're just doing this to egg me on, aren't you? Meanwhile, I found this beauty while being sidetracked: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racial_Integrity_Act_of_1924 …

At this point, this needs a librarian. TIL that Virginia just completely rearranged its code in 1950, and finding earlier versions online seems impossible.

Also, as a software engineer, this bugs me to no end. "Hey, this looks complex. We'll just rewrite the entire thing and LGTM it in bulk" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_of_Virginia#The_Code_of_1950 …)

Ah, here we go - we're including both sides at least since the code of 1904:https://books.google.com/books?id=00MwAQAAMAAJ&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_ViewAPI#v=onepage&q=incite&f=false …

And 1874: https://books.google.com/books?id=rtBOAQAAIAAJ&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_ViewAPI#v=onepage&q=incite&f=false … So, between 1860 and 1874. For no particular reason, my money is on "changed past 1865"

1865 makes a pretty clear point this was a slave law. I now *really* want to see it applied to Unite the Right. I mean, even more than before.
