Because of this embarrassment, they've started calling themselves the Charlottesville 32. Kind of to invoke a sense of being wronged, like the Charlottesville 12, who were the 12 students who desegregated public schools in Cville.

In October, they came back to hold a press event following the lawsuit filed by the city. They did a little demo at Emancipation Park, and Charlottesville activists mobilized.

While there, an unaffiliated local man started harassing an older woman sitting on a bench with a Black Lives Matter sign. I watched these "peacekeeping" militia members staring, doing nothing. So I intervened.

After the situation deescalated, I confronted the militia. From behind those hip sunglasses: "We were monitoring the situation, maam." That's it. That's all these militias are. They're an excuse to LARP as cops and troops.

Ultimately, these militia members did not engage in a single thing that represents deescalation or intervention skills. They don't do anything but stand around with guns because it strokes their fragile child boy egos.
