The Parkland students have captivated us because they're willing--and demonstrably able--to speak truth to power by walking out. To learn from their leadership, it's time we do the same. It's time for a general strike.

The students are a bigger thorn in the GOP's side than even the Mueller investigation. And they're accomplishing it with the basic action of a strike.

And they're not even profit-generators. They're students. Imagine the power the people would have if they did the same.

We can't simultaneously say, "the kids will save us" while ignoring the lesson they are teaching us.

The general populace in the USA Is so job-insecure they fear losing their jobs and won't do this. Alternately, there are so many who would cross the line(s) out of greed I don't think it would matter.

don't be a wet blanket. figure out how to make it work. that's why the kids are succeeding where you are not

Despite various school administrations' claims to the contrary, there are almost no negative repercussions for the students if they strike. Workers who strike risk losing their livelihood, possibly any hope of future hires.

        Replying to @jordanreiter @mattsiegel and

A student strike needs maybe 25% of the population in order to be successful. A worker's strike probably needs 75-80% participation. Otherwise the people still working will take over from the strikers.

Also it's a little bit hilarious for you to call people genuinely concerned about people's economic well-being "wet blankets". As if there are no serious consequences.

i apologize for presenting the idea insensitively. in this discussion we're weighing two sets of negative consequences against each other

I agree. I personally think protest is effective at redirecting focus to important issues. I think worker strikes are most effective when they are highly focused in terms of audience, participants, and goals.

People living paycheck to paycheck can't do that. I realize that's part of the systemic problem meant to prevent a general strike but it's also something that can't be waved away
