If you’re a human capable of rational thought and reasoned argument who wants the world to be a better place your opinion is just as valid as any other. Doesn’t make you right, but gender, race, etc don’t make you wrong.

So you’re an oppressor based the sex and skin color you ended up with birth? I get that to an extent; white guys get away with a lot (everything,?really) just by being white guys. What I’m hearing here, though, is they can’t be allies?
-
Not be allies and express honest outrage at what we see and here?
-
I’m OK if somebody doesn’t want me as an ally. I’m more concerned if identity automatically excludes people who want to get to a better place through rational debate.
-
Oppressors define rationality and the standards of debate. Liberation is not a topic subject to debate; debate is an act of further holding captive those who are oppressed.
-
If you are cis, you are by virtue automatically excluded from having amy stance, moral, rational, or otherwise on the liberation of trans people, regardless of how well-intentioned you are. Your debate is itself a gate through which only you can profit from the toll.
-
If that rationale generalises to any divisive topic, then we’re all doomed.

-
No, only the oppressors are doomed. The oppressed have been doomed.

I agree that’s generally true, yes. But if I have an opinion you think is wrong, I want to understand why I’m wrong. “Because I’m white” is an exceedingly weak argument.
-
As someone who has been in that position repeatedly in the past, I’ve found that other people are also already making the same arguments, and someone is explaining to them why they’re wrong. Read/listen and you can get your answer without adding to the deluge of demands 1/2
-
... on the time of the people you’re trying to help. If you’ve been doing that for awhile and you still aren’t seeing an answer, ask around, but understand that just because someone doesn’t have the time/energy to address your ? doesn’t mean it isn’t off base. 2/2
-
I agree. But that’s a long way from “If you’re a cis white guy your opinion on guns and associated regulations is literally worth nothing.”
-
Hi, this is Twitter, there are character limits and things get simplified. HOWEVER. YOU started at “my opinion is worth just as much as” and moved to “OK but I want someone to explain why I’m wrong” in one tweet, so it’s not like you aren’t doing it, too.
-
Fair :-) I was intending to convay we should judge opinions on their merrits.
-
Who gets to decide the merits?
