Gen-X was given to low expectations out of the box. Boomers always thought they were the hottest shit, so Gen-X was always the lost generation, a generation of underachievers never given a chance.

Millennials, by contrast, were always seen as the generation of high standards that they constantly failed to meet. This is, of course, bullshit, because Millennials have never had the resources.

Gen Z will, if we do our jobs right, be given those resources and that space and that guidance. That's our duty.

Like lemme make this clear: My generation has to handle fucking Nazis.

We can’t just throw this on Gen Z and sit back and wait. Hell yeah they’re doing amazing, I’m not going to push them out of the way, but we have to help.

She explicitly said that.

Yes, I’m agreeing with her

Like you, I am a cusper, and it's very telling to me that many WWI and WWII survivors expressed a kinship with our generations that boomers do not. Most Boomers have never faced the hardships of these generations, and struggle to empathize with them.

I am the Lost/Milennial generation, and to know the generations I am closest to were the Forgotten Generation and the Greatest Generation is humbling. I hope we can change the world for the better, and do it with the grace of those who came before us. We have big shoes to fill.

I am a Gen X parent of Gen Z. I recognized we have failed, for today... but I do not abdicate my responsibility for tomorrow, one I share WITH my daughters.

Let’s not let “Gen Z” become shorthand for “those damn kids on my lawn” the way “Millennials” has to generations older than us.

yeah! The oldest millenials are still only in their thirties and we're still super useful, gen x may be slightly older but still useful, at least we arent baby boomers. Can't wait to be saved, gotta save ourselves.

'cusped' is a great turn of phrase for us in that between time, I might have to use it.
-
It is. I think the high expectations are what put those on the cusp more in line w/ Millenials. Remember the optimism of the late 90s? Even poor Appalachian teens were supposed to do great things if they showed any academic skill at all. And then...

I have two nieces about to graduate high school. I worry that they're coming of age into the same situation we did. These kids give me hope that they're better prepared.

As a fellow Xennial who is raising some members of Gen Z I agree - within the next 10 years a big chunk of the Boomers and Silents holding this country back are going to be gone and it will be up to us to start the process
