In a non-glib conversation about guns, as a legal, law-abiding gun owner, I support gun education, but this is in no way a substitute for proper gun control.

This is a really good way to get acquainted with gun safety, and you can go to a local public range and rent a gun for not that much money. I recommend it for the simple sake of knowing what they feel like, how to safe them, etc.

We have 100,000,000+ guns in this country. We need to be as aware of gun safety as we are about smelling gas leaks and avoiding downed power lines. This is not *instead* of gun control. This is a necessary step because gun control isn't gonna happen overnight.

Anyhow, I often talk and teach about gun safety to folks, because I want them to feel comfortable knowing that I'm a gun owner, to feel confident that if *I* make a mistake they'll know how to see it and catch me on it.

My ideal world, there's no need for guns. I want to get to that world. Until then, I have a shitload of evidence of people plotting to murder me and I need to make sure I can keep my home safe.
