Here are the *actual* ethical problems of self-driving cars: - who holds the liability for an accident when the decision was made by an autonomous system? - who owns the data? - who is financially responsible for software maintenance?

Yeah. Interesting ethical question. The limitation exists to protect the battery, which in principle is a feature one might want.
