America and Capitalism are both in collapse. We expected a cliff, but what we really got was a gradually increasing slippery slope. We're on it now and don't even realize it.

Whereto though? As someone who's lived most of her life in a country that never quite abandoned fascism, the question of where to escape has been everpresent. But I don't really have an answer.

A long long time ago I had Iceland in mind for when civilisation collapsed. It was the first country to collapse after the crisis. Then I spent a few years in the UK. It's a country that can't invoke fascism fast enough.

I guess what counts is whether you're in a place which lets you not having to think about it day and night... and even that can change on a brim.

The Catalan government proclaimed the Catalan Republic a few months ago and all of a sudden every city in the rest of Spain was covered in Spanish flags... everyone talking about the evil Catalans... I had never seen such a thing outside of sports events...

Hell, the US is one of only a handful of countries that will grant even permanent residence to a disabled person

Which is basically saying "Are you wealthy? Good for you. You get to go to wherever's nicest." For the rest of us, there is no safe haven. Canada won't be safe, or Europe, or anywhere else. There no place to run.
