Consumer activism isn't activism. It's a power trip to blame the consumer for failures to hold corporations accountable. Take Uber if you need, eat wherever you need, take an extra 5 mins in the shower if you need. The free market isn't gonna uncorrupt corporations.https://twitter.com/laurenduca/status/961789641404928001 …

I have many, many reasons for not giving my money to Uber, Amazon, and companies that manufacture goods in sweatshops. And consumer activism absolutely is activism. It's not enough but to suggest otherwise in defense of making lazy, cheaper choices is wrong.

Yes, it's good to spend your money in more reasonable places but there is NO ethical consumption under capitalism and I reject the idea that purchasing decisions in a complex world merely reduce to 'lazy.'

I think we agree on more things than we disagree on, but throwing up your hands at the idea of making more ethical choices because capitalism is bad is absolutely lazy. Maybe that's an oversimplification of your argument but such is the world of tweets.

I literally said making more ethical choices is good. I also said that not flagellating yourself over every purchasing decision is also good. The problem isn't the consumer. It's the corporation.

Agree. Not looking for fisticuffs. But I see problems EVERYWHERE. Down with the corporation, etc., absolutely, though.

We have to be wary over the way out blame seems to seek out the talented, professional, young woman speaking truth to power (my quoted tweet) and not, idk, the drunk bros who do the same things at scale.

Now, here's something we can definitely 100% agree on.
