ICYMI: Mass shootings are so common place (did you hear about the school shooting in KY last week?) that they barely break into the 24-hr news cycle any more. Here's the latest: 4 dead, 1 critical, 1 hurt in Fayette County, PA, shooting http://www.post-gazette.com/local/region/2018/01/28/Fatal-shooting-investigation-Fayette-County-Indian-Creek-Valley-Road-multiple-dead/stories/201801280150 … via @PittsburghPG

As terrible as it is, decreased news coverage seems like an overall good thing.

I'm on the fence between "this has been normalized" and "the effect may mitigate future events."

What's the "effect" to which you refer in option #2? The effect of publicity?

IDK. The situation is different, but this advice is similar to what certain local
#Charlottesville public officials (and the SPLC, for that matter) tell us protesters: avoid alt-right rallies, "you're just giving them attention."1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
There's a different dynamic in legitimizing a political rally and granting someone the martyrship they've sought. Most mass shooters kill themselves, knowing they'll get media attention.
