This week was a long media week for me. And there were about 4 small-scale things in Charlottesville that popped up. And I had dayjob to do, speccing new work for the new year and dealing with a re-org.

As a remote employee, this all kind of blends together. I don't really delineate my work time. It feels constant, context switching from one thing to another, dealing with one issue after another, nonstop. Tomorrow's Saturday? What's a Saturday?

I definitely feel like I asked for this life. And honestly I love it. It feels like I'm doing meaningful work, even the small things. But it is nearly impossible to step back once this starts.

It's 10:15 and I just closed my dayjob email and calendar for the weekend. I had to duck out early to go do some patient advocacy for a comrade who is in the hospital, recovering from a third surgery since being injured on August 12.

An alert went up this afternoon for a Priority One call near downtown Charlottesville -- a call where someone is in danger. I had to notify my partners who work downtown, though it turned out to be a call to a different location with a similar name.

We also learned that one of the white supremacists convicted of violence (so far, THE white supremacist) on August 12 was being released from jail today. So we're a community on edge. Every single week it's something else.

Our community has gotten ok, but not great, at shift work. Some comrades cover city council. Others help watch for vandalism/postering/etc. Some do victim and patient support. We all take turns.

There's something about this healing process that I have yet to really fully conceptualize. But I'm getting there and want to be able to write about it someday soon.

Truth. Kind of showing my age here, but it reminds me a lot of when I was an avid pinball player as a teen, & multi-ball suddenly became a Thing. You either learnt to change your focus, or failed.
