I mean, yeah, to an extent hanging out with them is an inherently "chummy" act, but at no point is she implying that her intent is anything but understanding these people.

There is substantially more nuance to all this than is being communicated here. There is a false binary. They are absolutely Nazis by action. They don't believe in it; they believe in the paycheck and the power. That doesn't make it excusable. It does make it something else tho.

Does it really matter when the effects are the same? An SS officer who's merely an opportunist is still an SS officer, even if he doesn't really subscribe to Nazi ideology. If anything the ideologues for hire are more dangerous than the brownshirts on the street.

The social event mentioned was a tech conference. It was not information I needed for any thing. But it would have been valuable information if I were a person so inclined.
