But also, the importance of the work that Liz is doing very publicly and at great risk to herself, and the importance of what everyone else there is doing less publicly, cannot be understated. If these good folks cannot rescue Google, then I have deep concerns for the industry.

There was a point in tech during Yahoo's downfall where if you were (a man) in tech, the thought of working there was like getting cooties. "Hey, wanna work for Yahoo?" "Why the fuck would I do that?"

Right now, if you're an underrepresented minority or a woman in tech, there are a lot of companies that are treated just like that. "Wanna interview at Facebook?" "Why the fuck would I do that?"

Google's not yet there. But it's trending that way. And if it does, that's going to have a big impact on the long-term success of diversifying technology.
