There's a take I hear from time to time about how there's really not that many white nationalists/alt-right out there, and that we shouldn't worry about them so much. It's interesting because the first part of this is kind of valid.

But that's kind of where the argument breaks down. These groups and personalities somehow command an exceptional amount of attention proportional to their actual direct influence.

Spencer is dangerous not because he has a large army of followers but because he is able to swing narratives *despite* his diminishing base.

Newsnight is the main political panel show on BBC. Nigel Farage has stood for Parliament time after time. He always lost. Hardly any politician appeared on that show as often as him.

Every up and down, internal struggle of our Far-Right political parties is reported on. UKIp have had one Parliamentary seat. Same as Greens who are invisible. Farage was always on before they even got one seat (by defection not election).

Despite the Beebs talk of "balance" I've never seen a revolutionary communist, anarchist or even solid anti-capitalist of any hue on Newsnight. Overton window is perpetually hauled rightward.
