Emily isn't white, but I agree that's not the fight to be picking with a black woman.

I don't think I was picking a fight? I certainly am sensitive to that and if I did I am sorry.

Picking a fight isn't quite the precise sentiment I'm going for but how that's gonna look to a black woman probably isn't worth arguing over?

It’s a matter of content, not tone.

Ok, that's fine. For the sake of this discussion, I am uneasy with the accusations of "arguing" and "pick a fight" combined with the erasure of my race, which is the perfect setup for the immediate disposability point I was trying to make.

I apologise for getting your race wrong. I wanted to note that PoC are free to distrust White people for whatever reason they want - no White person is immune from being complicit in racism. This is not a matter of disposability. PoC don't owe anyone their trust.

To be clear, that discussion was a specific context about "earning chances." I agree with that position. But in agreeing it is useful to know what the line is.

It may be useful to know, but often there isn't really a definite line. I know for me it's often very contextual, sometimes arcane, and even then it's "mmmm I'll still keep you at arm's length for a while".

Oh for sure. And I'm just talking about a chance for the benefit of the doubt, like, "wow this looks weird but given her record maybe there's something else afoot." Ofc that's not owed but I didn't offer that premise either.
