Have citizens ever been falsely warned by official means of immediately impending nuclear strikes? Much less twice in one week? And have there been any significant nuclear war false alarm incidents -- private misinterpretations that nearly set off retaliation -- since the 1980s?

Every article I've read on the false missile warnings mentions no comparable past incidents, and the last cataclysmic misinterpretations were in 1983. Is there something everyone is missing, or is this truly unprecedented?

I think this is not anomalous. Many places are renewing or accelerating tests because of the tension buildup, and with increased frequency comes increased chance of failure, especially for seldom-used things.

I also think that due to using Internet and smartphones to distribute warnings, the whole field of public warning dramatically changed. Making it hard to compare to past incidents.

Definitely agree with that. Unfortunately, it makes the system more vulnerable too.

I'm not on team conspiracy, but there was this a while back, which is still under investigation.http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/north-korea-us-forces-evacuation-fake-message-trump-kim-jong-un-latest-a7961766.html …

I don't believe Gov. Ige would've risked reelection nor HEMA staff risked their job & death threats like this if they had any reason to suspect a hack. His administration & the entire HEMA has taken a terrible beating from this & he was already facing a tough primary.
