Have citizens ever been falsely warned by official means of immediately impending nuclear strikes? Much less twice in one week? And have there been any significant nuclear war false alarm incidents -- private misinterpretations that nearly set off retaliation -- since the 1980s?

I also think that due to using Internet and smartphones to distribute warnings, the whole field of public warning dramatically changed. Making it hard to compare to past incidents.

Definitely agree with that. Unfortunately, it makes the system more vulnerable too.

There were several articles last year about Hawaii renewing its alert and alarm system for the first time in a decade. Failure more likely now due to lack of practice.
