I would also stress how 2016 was the first presidential election without the VRA in 50 years, institutional barriers to voting and civic engagement, and the electoral college/senate/gerrymandering. The percentage from Russia just was another straw on the anti democratic camel.

Which is to say that Trump winning a minority of the vote in an undemocratic system doesn't strike me as an overwhelming support. I understand the soi disant resistance as being a popular front of the plurality of Clinton suppprters+non voters+3rd party voters+disenfranchised

It's not, by any measure. He got fewer votes cast, *and* in at least three of the states he won, POC were specifically targeted for vote suppression *because* they vote against racists.

If the thesis is "America is racist at hell" the yeah, no shit. Where have you been for the last 270 years? But that in no way translates into "America is overwhelmingly racist".

If that were true, Republicans would not feel compelled to cheat their way to power. They would have it organically.
