Gender is more than clothing, but it's accurate to say that clothing generally has been a consequence of gender.

This ultimately led me to the realization that if our mechanisms for communicating gender are extremely variable not just cross-culturally, but intra-culturally and cross-generationally, then maybe the thing that changes is gender itself.

Lewis Hamilton mocking his nephew for wearing a dress is silly. Within the 20th Century, a man of his stature would be mocked if his nephew *didn't* wear a dress. Or if he didn't wear a dress with the properly configured hair bow.

Bigots mock individuals who are gender fluid, but gender itself is one of the most fluid social constructs humanity even has. It's so fluid that imperialist capitalism, which has homogenized so much to western standards, has been unable to stop its dynamism.
