I don't disagree with their analysis of the state's complicity, but James Fields drove into a crowd of 500 people. We were not a few dozen more antifascists away from that not happening.
The Nazis were coming to Charlottesville no matter what. The state's complicity is their failure to take our community's warnings seriously and end the fascist threat before it started.
We were also not deterred by #J20 from organizing in any way. Local asks in Charlottesville were clear and were rooted in the safety concerns of our Black communities based on past events over *decades*.
I have seen many bad takes on Charlottesville from antifascist and anarchists who weren't here and know nothing about this community or organizing in Appalachia and the south.
Exactly. I got tired of some patronizing activists from northern urban locales tryna "help" us by dropping their out-of-context templates onto a small Southern town. Yo, we're the experts on our location. listen. to. us. and learn, and then we can be allies.
You realize that there were already loads of not locals there and anti fascists were still outnumbered or evenly matched most of the day. There is no "capacity" for how well something can be organized everything has shortcomings and can be benefitted by others experience.
You realize that James Fields made a premeditates decision to drive into us regardless of how many people we had and that's *on him* and nothing else. Heather is dead because a Nazi killed her.
Every "what if" is meaningless speculation that is equally as valid as its counterpoint. The framing in the article is unnecessary to its thesis and ignorant of fact.
