There's this other option called "holding the developer accountable to his obligations" and also "condemning the motherfucker and tearing it down."

Hey I have an idea. Let's just keep throwing money at developers to not keep their promises. That has a real strong history of working and isn't at all what brought us here.

Maybe after we give him a million in tax breaks, we can give him two million in tax breaks. And all he has to do is continue doing the hard work of "nothing."

I just gave two alternatives to "nothing."

Downtown Cville is clamoring for office space. I guarantee you can get a developer to do something better with the area and *not* end up in a toxic, go nowhere contract situation. Or not, because who wants to bring a business to Nazi central with the highest healthcare costs

The police Civilian Review Board passed, too. It was a good night for progressive, grass roots driven initiatives.
-
Here's hoping it has teeth. But it is a measurable step forward.
-
I hope so. The old guard, PR-focused police community relations board had former LE staff and family of LE on it.
@CvilleCityHall summarily disbanded a few weeks ago in response to community pressure. Tellingly, the old board was opposed to the new CRB.

Not sure why anyone thinks Dewberry is committed to building that hotel. It can sit as it is for the rest of his life, and after last night it very well may.
-
That statement remains true even with the money they were proposing to throw at him. Because CCC got played years ago. They need to accept sunk costs and condemn the building.
-
Just so I’m clear: City cutting Dewberry some of the future tax receipts from his project is bad. The City spending millions in current tax money to acquire a partially done project is good. Is that right? Keep in mind condemning a property doesn’t mean you get it for free.
